Since I returned home a lot
has happened!
Dianne visited Pete Perault in a New York hospital before returning to
Guam. She showed him and his wife pictures of our trip and told them all
about the Empress Adventure. Sadly, not long after she left, Pete passed
away. Our sincerest sympathies go out to the Perault family. Pete and
Vonnie Perault had been on the diving expedition in 1970 when Ron Strong
found the compass. He was an avid diver and his family still owns several
Empress artifacts, including the main helm.
Chris and I returned to our lives begrudgingly. We of course still talk
every day via email and regularly by phone. We're working to expand the
LostLiners Foundation; first step is getting chartered. That task has
fallen on me, and I welcome any help that anyone can give! We've made
several new contacts in our efforts to preserve the wreck of Empress
of Ireland. Chris met and interviewed Phillipe Beaudry, owner of the
largest collection of Empress artifacts. I have made good friends
with David Zeni, author of "Forgotten Empress: The Empress of Ireland
Story" and am even designing his new Web site. Look for David to
be writing some content for the new Empress of Ireland site at
LostLiners soon!
The few days I spent in Canada on my Empress Adventure will be treasured
forever. In those few days, I felt I lived a lifetime with Dianne, Chris,
Edith, Marc, Eduard, Terry and everyone else we had the pleasure to meet.
It was a surreal experience and it is my sincere hope that I can one day
bring you a sequel to this story. Our work in Pointe au Pere is far from
finished and I fully intend to return to Empress of Ireland for
another adventure!
Thanks for letting me share this with you!
THE
END (?)
