Just outside Rimouski, within view of the lighthouse at Pointe au
Père stand an obelisk marking the mass grave of 88 Empress
victims. Twenty are identified by name, while the remaining sixty-eight
were unidentified bodies removed from the wreck. The monument was
erected by Canadian Pacific to remember the tragedy and honor its
victims. |

We went to the monument
just before we left Rimouski. With the museum ceremony and visit to
the wreck under our belts, we felt it only fitting to visit the memorial.
We took several pictures and spent some time exploring the shoreline
across the street.
Marc had found out that the Bernier Museum in L'Islet-sur-Mer had
an Empress exhibit as well and was only open for a few more hours.
It was a drive of several hours so we decided to try and get there
before they closed. |
