A Quiet Day in Ottawa

We actually slept in on Sunday! What an exhausting couple of days. Chris had to take his friend who had been house-sitting home and the rest of us went to sleep. Chris said that when he came home the dogs were barking and making so much noise that he thought I would wake up for sure! But I slept right through it. We had a nice breakfast and then piled into Chris' car for a site seeing tour of Ottawa.

What a beautiful city. Built over several hills overlooking the Ottawa River, the city is quite a site. Trees everywhere, and the government buildings are among the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Chris impressed us all with his knowledge of the history of Ottawa. He'd make a great tour guide, though he seemed annoyed at the suggestion..8-)

I was out of film and almost out of funds, so sorry, no pics of Ottawa. It was our down-day. Just enjoyed ourselves, went shopping (of course I had to get some souvenirs for the wife and kids). We had a wonderful time, went home to Chris' and had a cookout.

Chris and I spent a lot of time sitting out on his back porch, drinking beer and talking about the events of the past few days. We pondered where we would go next; what we would do, when we'd actually see eachother again. We'd only met for the first time a few days ago, but we'd developed such a bond that it was hard to think about leaving the next day. Here I was hundreds of miles from home, with a guy who I feel was destined to be my best friend (and I his) and we finally got to meet and share this adventure and now it was time to go? I wanted to stay but at the same time was really really homesick. I wanted to see my wife and little girls.

We ate good that night, drank a lot of beer and went to bed later than we should have but it was our last night so we figured what the hell. Dianne could drive first in the morning while I nursed what would certainly be a nice little hangover...
