The story of Titanic is an epic tale of humanity’s struggle to obtain perfection and superiority over a force that will not be dominated; nature. From this tale we choose to learn; to accept our imperfections and respect nature and it’s vengeful power. In the face of our own mortality, however, we cannot deny the challenge to do more than should be done, to go farther than nature wants to allow. It is the core of the human spirit that drives us to be the masters of our domain. Where this drive will lead us is open to speculation. Tragic events shape our course; what we gain determines our speed.

Titanic’s fate was sealed upon impact with that iceberg and in that moment the world’s destiny was changed forever. Cautious and discerning, we moved beyond the tragedy and swore to ourselves that it would not be repeated. To this day we are still learning. Tragedy abounds in the modern era, in many forms. From each tragedy comes a knowledge that allows us to prevent another. Sometimes, as in the case of Titanic, that knowledge comes at a terrible price. But for all Titanic has taught us, we can only watch as the Ship of Dreams fades away from us and into history. Every day, nature further destroys that which it took from us so long ago. At it’s current rate of deterioration, Titanic will not last far into the 21st century. The organisms consuming the iron in her hull will soon cause the ship to collapse upon itself. Eventually there will be nothing left. All we will have are the pictures, artifacts and memories of what Titanic once was and everything she came to represent.

For me Titanic will always be the Ship of Dreams, even when the dream is all that remains. Thank you for taking the time to visit my pages dedicated to the tragic story of this maginficent vessel.
